| ( Reprinted from the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce Publications ): Sevierville, Tennessee city leaders continue to work together to promote expansions in the local economy, while creating welcoming "active" areas that are truly a reflection of Sevierville's personality. One outstanding example is the city's large (150,000 square feet) events and exhibition center, which will begin hosting conventions and trade shows in the fall of 2007.
Visitors to these events will be able to stay at the events center hotel (which includes a state of the art indoor water park), and play a round of golf at the City's nearby 18-hole championship golf course, or at the more relaxed 18-hole resort course. The specialty retail, vacation recreation, and resort housing under development in the events center area will complement other similar areas in our City, such as Governor's Crossing and Tanger Five Oaks Outlet Center.
Sevierville's busy downtown is also home to a mix of business and activities, not the least of which is our annual three day festival, "Bloomin' Bluegrass and Barbecue".
In 2006, a bypass (Highway 448) was opened that allows motorists to travel around the busiest intersection in Sevier County ( Highway 66/Highway 441). The bypass is part of the City's newly implemented Ultraflow Traffic Plan that has eased traffic congestion though out the downtown area.
Also, a major east / west connector between the parkway and Veteran's BLVD. (Collier Drive) was opened in 2006, allowing citizens and visitors to efficiently travel between these two major roads.
Several major road projects are scheduled to be completed in the near future, including the widening of highway 66 and completion of Veteran's BLVD., a new north / south route from Sevierville to Pigeon Forge.
Veterans BLVD. was partially opened to traffic in 2006, and is now virtually complete in the fall of 2007.
City and State spending on new road projects and existing road projects between 2005 - 2010 is estimated at $130 million.
Developers and businesses profit tremendously here because Sevierville, Tennessee is a large part of Tennessee's vast $12.4 billion (per annum) tourism industry. Another advantage is that visitors see the Great Smoky Mountains National Park as a region, not as a group of distinct
cities - one expansive marketplace of cultural diversity, entertainment options, dining pleasures, and shopping choices. Very noteworthy, too, is the revenue increase that will be realized from spin-off customers as a result of the phenomenal amount of national, statewide and regional tourism advertising that is spent on our area.
Recognized as a favorite vacation destination, Gatlinburg , Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville, Tennessee are within a day's drive (500 miles) of most of the U. S. population east of the Mississippi.
The Great Smoky Mountain region advertises aggressively as a major national player for tourist dollars. And that advertising often translates into "free" advertising for your business here, particularly your vacation rental log cabin in the Smoky Mountains. For instance, the critically acclaimed "The Stage is Set for You" advertising campaign has generated a 25% increase in the number of inquiries to the Tennessee Department of Tourism. A number of travel writers are also brought into the area each year, which is a public relations gesture that generates considerable publicity. Sevierville, Tennessee also advertises in national publications such as Family Circle, Better Homes and Gardens, Southern Living, and Women's Day, as well as advertising via internet and television.
The Sevierville Chamber of Commerce dedicates extensive amounts of energy and money on aggressive advertising for the Sevierville. Those
websites and 800 numbers are other popular vehicles for increasing commerce and tourism in the area. About 1,500 inquiries a month are
received at our main 800 number.
Free advertising for the Sevierville area abounds. Since the Great Smoky Mountains are by far the most beautiful natural feature in Tennessee,
the state's literature, advertising, and public relations campaigns focus on our region. Every year you can count on new calendars, coffee table photo books, and regional and national media attention showcasing the natural beauty of the area. This has a very positive effect on drawing
tourists to the area, and benefits everyone who invests in rental cabins here. Nearby Dollywood, in Pigeon Forge, is another huge tourist
draw. Dollywood is Tennessee's number one man made tourist attraction, drawing 2.2 million annually.
And finally, our Winterfest attractions make the Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville, Tennessee area truly a year 'round tourist destination.
